The government is talking about increasing the price of cigarettes, alcohol and junk food to discourage their consumption as part of a healthy living campaign.
Taxes on cigarattes and alcohol are already very high. It’s hard to see price discouraging their use.
A cynic might suggest it’s just another tax grab.
Daylight saving time started in South Australia today, three weeks earlier than usual, as part of a “trial”.
That means the government wants it to happen and we have no choice in the matter.
Mount Gambier is effectively in Victoria, which is on Eastern Standard Time, so daylight saving here doesn’t have much impact.
But in places like Ceduna and Kalgoorlie, where I have lived previously, it’s terrible. City politicians don’t think about that.
